The Acheron River traverses the prefectures of Ioannina, Thesprotia, and Preveza, with a total length of 64 kilometers. It has been navigable since antiquity and is today one of the main and cleanest rivers in Greece. However, Acheron is a unique river that anyone can cross and explore. The starting point for crossing the river and the springs is our hotel. From the hotel, a 300-meter path begins that will lead you to the first major spring of the river. <\/p>

Then you will continue the route through the water, having the opportunity to see the other springs that exist along the river as well as the large gorges of the canyon.<\/p>

According to folk tradition, the waters of the Acheron River were bitter because a ‘stoicheio’ (monster) living in its springs poisoned the waters. Saint Donatus, patron saint of the Metropolis of Paramythia, Thesprotia, killed the monster, and the waters of Acheron became sweet. This is how the village of Glyki (meaning ‘sweet’) got its name. <\/p>

Also, an interesting element from ancient Greek mythology that testifies to its continuity in modern folk tradition is the following: During the Titanomachy, the Titans drank water from Acheron to quench their thirst, which provoked the wrath of Zeus, who blackened and embittered its waters.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
