There are also many myths associated with Skala Tzavelenas, all related to the legendary female captain Tzavelena.
It’s noteworthy that Moscho Tzavela was from Souli, and during the Ottoman period, it’s said that she, along with other Souliot women, led the fight against the Ottomans, specifically against Ali Pasha.
According to the first version of the myth, Tzavelena fell with her horse on this path and was killed. Thus, the staircase was named after her.
Finally, the second version says that this old Souliot path was built by Tzavelena herself along with her companions.
